Capturing Natural Light: Creating a Japandi-Inspired Master Bathroom in Jamaica Plain

My clients: a Finnish family who recently purchased a three-bedroom condo in Jamaica Plain, MA. Their vision of the master bathroom was a combination of Japanese and Nordic style bathroom with a double sink vanity, a free standing tub and lots of natural light.

Here's the twist: the existing bathroom, nestled in a cozy corner, lacked windows, and was tiny (see here). Undeterred, my client shared her inspiration: airy Japanese-style bathrooms with expansive windows, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor elements. Lighting was paramount.

Enter the challenge: how to infuse this space with the luminosity of their dreams. The solution? Channeling natural light from adjoining spaces while preserving the intimacy of the bathroom. But there's more. To accommodate their wishlist - a standalone soaking tub, a spacious shower stall, and a chic double vanity - strategic square footage allocation was essential. With meticulous planning and creative ingenuity, we transformed their vision into a reality, crafting a serene sanctuary that marries Scandinavian simplicity with Japanese aesthetics.
