After completing the
renovation of their kitchen and
redesign of their living and dining rooms, I had already developed a good sense of my client’s style preferences, and we were now ready to take on the family room as the next decorating project. Functionally, the
space plan had to reflect a variety of family activities: watching TV, playing games, socializing, reading, doing
homework and working on the computer. Visually, the color scheme was going to be a vibrant
mix of bold colors: blues and whites, with orange and green as accent colors.

To accommodate the much- needed
storage space, I designed two built-in units with a mix of open- and closed shelves.,
We decided to paint the inside of the shelving unit a bright blue. Replacing the wall-to-wall carpeting with an engineered-wood floor, we then chose a gray-and-white zebra-striped area rug. The custom sectional sofa, upholstered in a vibrant-blue ultrasuede, looked even better then we had imagined! One of the only pieces we kept from before was the coffee table, which my client’s husband had made himself and which had significant sentimental value. We completed the room with a new
lighting design - recessed lighting, accent lights, and custom bamboo shades.
